Now this is the account of the forced labor which King Solomon conscripted to build the house of the Lord, his own house, the Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.

For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and overthrown Gezer and burned it with fire, and killed the Canaanites who lived in the city; and he had given it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.

So Solomon rebuilt Gezer and the lower Beth-horon,

and Baalath and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land of Judah,

and all the storage cities which Solomon had, that is, the cities for his chariots and the cities for his horsemen, and everything that it pleased Solomon to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land under his rule.

As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel,

their descendants who were left after them in the land, whom the sons of Israel were unable to completely eliminate, from them Solomon conscripted forced laborers, as they are to this day.

But Solomon did not make slaves of the sons of Israel; for they were men of war, his servants, his commanders, his charioteers, his chariot commanders, and his horsemen.

솔로몬 왕이 역군을 일으킨 까닭은 이러하니 여호와의 성전과 자기 왕궁과 밀로와 예루살렘 성과 하솔과 므깃도와 게셀을 건축하려 하였음이라

전에 애굽 왕 바로가 올라와서 게셀을 탈취하여 불사르고 그 성읍에 사는 가나안 사람을 죽이고 그 성읍을 자기 딸 솔로몬의 아내에게 예물로 주었더니

솔로몬이 게셀과 아래 벧호론을 건축하고

또 바알랏과 그 땅의 들에 있는 다드몰과

자기에게 있는 모든 국고성과 병거성들과 마병의 성들을 건축하고 솔로몬이 또 예루살렘과 레바논과 그가 다스리는 온 땅에 건축하고자 하던 것을 다 건축하였는데

이스라엘 자손이 아닌 아모리 사람과 헷 사람과 브리스 사람과 히위 사람과 여부스 사람 중 남아 있는 모든 사람

As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel,

곧 이스라엘 자손이 다 멸하지 못하므로 그 땅에 남아 있는 그들의 자손들을 솔로몬이 노예로 역군을 삼아 오늘까지 이르렀으되
